Great Tamar Gig Race for the Brunel Trophy
On 25th March 2006 the club is holding the Great Tamar Gig Race, the start will be at Cothele, by kind permission of the National Trust, at 2.15 p.m. and run downstream to Saltash. The finish will be under Brunel’s famous Royal Albert Bridge. This event will be one of many celebrating the 200th anniversary of Isambard Kingdom Brunel’s birth.
20 gig clubs have been invited to the first race, after which the prize giving will take place at Saltash Sailing Club/Caradon Gig Club where refreshments will be available. Let’s hope that many members and their friends will turn up to view the first long distance gig race to be held on the Tamar. Viewing points are, Cothele, Weir Quay (refreshments), Cargreen and the finish at Saltash. If you are interested in helping in any way please call John Pearce on 01822-840846 (evenings) or mobile 07976256329 or e mail john.pearce@weir-quay.com.
To be fair we will try to set it up so that those who row in this event give others a chance in the three rivers race and vice versa. Rowers who wish to take part to contact their squad captains asp.
